2018 - 

A wonderfully drinkable wine from a rising star of the appellation. 

Le Marquis is the second wine from the producer, and its Merlot-led blend from the youngest wines of the estate make it playful, fruity, and excellent for drinking now, while the 17 months aging in oak (30% new) also lends it to aging further - a true all-rounder. 

Described as 'opulent scents of Indian spices, menthol and plum preserves with a core of crème de cassis, baked cherries and raspberry pie plus a hint of sandalwood' by Wine Advocate, it really is fantastically appealing.

2019 - 

From the hugely sought after Château Calon-Ségur property. This, the second wine, is a brilliant purchase, certainly one to stock up on. Will drink well through to 2040.

Calon-Ségur's 74-hectare vineyard, which is partly enclosed by a wall, is located just to the north of the village of St-Estèphe. The vineyards (Cabernet Sauvignon 65%, Merlot 20%, Cabernet Franc 15%) lie on up to 5 metre deep gravel beds mixed with sand and, in parts, limestone and clay.

A chewy, structured red with blackberry, chocolate and some walnut and bark. It’s full-bodied and solid with lots of fruit and tannins -James Suckling

Cabernet Sauvignon (45%), Merlot (43%) blend Calon-Ségur draws its indulgent and generous flavours from the beautiful Saint-Estèphe terroir. Elegant and full flavoured with blackberry, chocolate and noble aromas of cedar and sweet spice. Can be cellared up untill 2040.”

2020 - 

A true example of the confident power Saint-Estèphe.

The higher volume of Merlot in this blend lends intself to a plummy, sweeter opening, while the heat of the summer is evident in the raw power and depth in the intensity of spice and tannin. Black cherry, cloves, incense, and tobacco all jump out, with just enough roundness and sweetness brough from the fruitier notes of blackberry, plum, and violet.

This is a wine that will do very well with further aging to allow those punchy tannins to develop.
